Sensex, Nifty end down one percent, snap four-day winning streak

The Sensex and Nifty declined more than 1 % on Tuesday, snapping four consecutive sessions of gains, as escalating worries around North Korea added to the volatility ahead of local derivatives contracts expiry this week.


Both indexes had marked their biggest intraday percentage fall in nearly nine months during the session.

The Nifty closed 1.2 % lower at 9,796.05, while the benchmark Sensex ended down 1.14 % at 31,388.39 Nifty below 9,800.


The 30-share BSE Sensex was down 371 points or 1.17 %at 31,379.82 and the 50-share NSE Nifty fell 126.85 points or 1.28 % to 9,785.95, at 14:04 hours IST.
